With the influx of foreigners looking for their piece of paradise, prices for land, vacation homes, condos and most every type of resort property and real estate development took off in Costa Rica, starting in the northern province of Guanacaste. There condos and houses are now selling for over $700K to $800K for a 3000 square foot home with a view of the water. Development then moved farther south to the central pacific region near Jaco where similar homes are now also approaching the $500K to $600K range. So now development is starting to move farther south where prices are still very inexpensive.
The south pacific region near the town of Golfito is the next Costa Rica up and coming market area for real estate and resort and vacation property development. And it's not difficult to predict what the real estate prices will do here with all the new development that will soon be underway. 
The government is strongly supporting development in the southern region of the country. New hospitals, roads, and an international airport are being built just north of Golfito. Within the town itself, a major marina, condo and retail complex called Bahia Escondida is also being built. This development will totally transform this little town into a top tourist destination for wealthy yacht owners and sportsmen. There are also many other developments coming to this area. And similarly another 5 Star hotel is to be built on the waterfront in a later phase of the Bahia Escondida project.
