Real Estate Golfito
Real estate Golfito is on the verge of a new boom. Real estate and property values in the southern zone of Costa Rica and on the Osa pennisula, is being boosted by new developments. An area almost forgotten when the Chiquita banana company closed their operations in the mid 1980's, this town is again being discovered as an eco-tourism paradise. Real estate prices in
Golfito
slowly started to climb in recent years. In the American zone, houses built to accommodate the banana company workers, are now being bought by investors and retirees who are refurbishing them for their vacation or retirement homes. The typical banana company house, a 2 storey structure built of treated wood, with 10 foot ceilings and built in the plantation style, are quite nice when they are fixed up and refurbished. Many of these homes have views of the water and they also surround a central recreation area that includes a golf course and tennis courts with the regional airport nearby. Last year when I was in Golfito, these banana worker homes could be purchased from about $60,000. This year a couple of similar homes are now on the market at $120,000 - $140,000, for a home that needs some work. Oceanfront property, ocean view real estate, and raw land around the Golfito area has been increasing in price in recent years. A few years back you could get a 1/2 acre oceanfront property for as little as $50,000. Now you may pay well over $100,000 for the same property. Many new developments coming to the area are increasing the price of real estate, as well as improving the desirability of the area. A new 250 slip marina for large luxury boats and a waterfront condo complex is attracting people with deep pockets. Also the new international airport to be built just north of the town will also increase tourism to the area. Check out more information on the
upcoming developments
for this area and a new
luxury resort development.
