Costa Rica Real Estate Tambor

Costa Rica real estate Tambor is seeing some new developments but the area is not attracting the same amount of government investment as other areas in the central and southern pacific regions. The northern region of Costa Rica in the province of Guanacaste on the Nicoya penninsula was the area where tourism development first began. This area now has smaller resorts as well and many larger developments and hotel chains like the Four Seasons, Allegro and Marriott to mention a few.

While a new international airport was built in Liberia approximately 10 years ago to promote tourism in the northern region along the Costa Rica Nicoya peninsula, development in the area encountered problems with a lack of infrastructure. In the north the roads are very poor and it is difficult to get around other than going to or around the resorts which in most cases, built their own roads for many miles simply to provide access to the resort.

The northern area is also the driest in the country which combined with the unregulated development that occurred for a period with the initial development boom, some resort in this area are now experiencing water problems. Tamarindo is currently looking for a solution to the water problems as many of the developments in this area were built without proper permits.

However progress, although slow progress, continues to be made to address the infrastructure problems in the northern province of Guanacaste and moneys are being allocated to pave roads in the area to make these popular beach areas more accessible.

And the northern region continues to attract big name players and developers. A few months back Mel Gibson purchased a luxury resort in the area. Now on August 3, Steve Case (founder of America Online) and Sol Kerzner(developer of the Atlantis resort in the Bahamas) announced plans to build an $800 million luxury resort, the largest tourism investment in the country's history in the northern pacific region. The project, being developed by Exclusive Resorts (owned by Case) will be located on 650 acres of land near Punta Cacique. The project includes a world class golf course and tennis and fitness center which is being designed by the world champion tennis legends André Agassi and Steffi Graff, as well as luxury resort hotels and a spa.

While these new announcements are good news for people who invested in this region several years ago, the area has become unaffordable for many just now looking to get into the resort vacation retirement market. These people should look farther south and get ahead of the next development boom.
