American companies in Costa Rica

There are over 150 American companies in Costa Rica today and many have been locating larger manufacturing and distribution facilities here. Companies are drawn to Costa Rica by the investment friendly policies of the government, along with the prolonged political stability of the country.

The financial securities and tax laws in Costa Rica make it one of the safest countries for investment in Latin America. This investment friendly environment along with the availability of a highly educated and skilled workforce provides a favorable environment for business investment. The ability to significantly reduce operating costs while producing the same quality of goods and services makes a good business case for Costa Rica as a location to relocate or expand business operations.



Many high tech companies have operations in Costa Rica. Companies such as Intel, Acer, Microsoft, Motorola, Lucent Technologies, Cisco Systems, Unisys, Oracle, BasF, 3M, 3Comm, have established themselves here in recent years.

Large pharmaceutical companies have also discovered the benefits and offices or operations Merck, Pfizer, Kimberley Clark, Glaxo-Smith-Kline and Elly-Lilly as have major companies like Proctor and Gamble and General Electric.

And of course the fast food industry is also making its way into the country. MacDonald's and Kentucky fried chicken can now be found in the large urban centres. Wal-Mart is also invested heavily in Costa Rica, purchasing the majority of Costa Rica's supermarket's a while back. And the company also opened it's first large Wal-Mart store in July of 2007, a new Hipermás retail store located in Escazú, a western suburb of San José.

The resort industry continues to expand and attract ever larger resort development such as Four Seasons, Mariott Hotels, and Allegro hotels. Disney has also recently joined the group and is beginning to focus on Costa Rica as a major growth area. The southern region of the country looks to be the next major development area next major development area for tourism and new luxury resort developments.
